Joy retired from her role as Headway Derby Volunteer Coordinator in March 2014 after being responsible for the recruitment and development of our talented team of volunteers.  She originally joined the team in 2006 as our administrator. Joy has also been an active volunteer outside of her work at Headway and has volunteered for the Beaver Scouts, Derby Athletic Club, St John Ambulance, Cycling proficiency amongst others! Joy also possesses a health and social care degree from her time at the University of Derby.

Joy is passionate about volunteering and understands how important it is to the work of Headway Derby – it really does make a difference! We were delighted to know that Joy decided to continue to support us by remaining with the organisation as a volunteer.

Lyn Palmer - Support Worker

Lyn oversees the running of our Outreach services in the capacity of Outreach Coordinator although her support also extends to our members days service.  Most days Lyn can be found visiting our members to support them with wide ranging issues from housing to medication.

Lyn joined Headway in 2011 with experience of a family support project which also delivered outreach support across Derby. Lyn possesses an NVQ level three qualification in health and social care. Lyn enjoys working for Headway and the opportunity it provides to help point brain injured people in the right direction and help deal with their problems.

Ruth Wright - Volunteer Support Worker

Following funding cuts from Derby City Council in 2016, Ruth reluctantly took voluntary redundancy. However, Ruth continues to support Headway Derby as our lead volunteer at our allotment project, providing support to people who would otherwise have lost their service due to the funding cuts; Ruth enjoys the opportunity to support and encourage members and to utilise her gardening talents. Because of her commitment to Headway Derby, Ruth was shortlisted as a finalist for the national Volunteer of the Year award in the 2016 Headway UK Annual Awards.

Ruth joined us in 2006 as a Support Worker for our members day service.  Ruth is passionate about the social inclusion aspects of the service.  A retired Occupational Therapist specialising in rheumatology Ruth brings a complementary set of skills to assist the team on members days.
